where has the time gone?!

January has come and gone so quickly! We have been so focused on all of our Art Movement work, studying the figure and the work of Keith Haring, that I almost missed this months blog! Never fear! Here's your art update!
All students have been working on various project that are inspired by the work of American artist Keith Haring. Students created a variety of artworks ranging from individual work to collaborative work, mini murals, life size figures, graphics, and visual puns.
In Grade 6, students are working on mural design and learning about the preparation that goes into creating art for a communal space.
PreK, Kinder, and Grade 1 have been practicing their collaboration skills by working on a collaborative graffiti "mural". Students really had to work together and problem solve to make their murals stand out!
Grade 2,3,4,and 5 created individual mini murals that show understanding of proportion, overlapping, and color composition. Students created their own original compositions using the Keith Haring style figures.
Grade 4 and 5 have also been spending more time talking and writing about their artwork and analyzing famous artworks, as we head into our section on Pop Art. Students have shown a lot of vitality, courage, and intelligence during our discussions and in their critique writing.

Make sure to check out the walls of lower school for all the new artwork students have made!

Announcement!

During this quarter is when our Art Classes begin to utilize recycled items to make our artworks. We do this to study sustainability, and eco-friendly practices in art. Students are encouraged to bring the following items to the art room:
  • toilet paper rolls
  • cardboard (bits or boxes)
  • old clothes, fabric, bed sheets (clean please)
  • soda cans
  • plastic bottle of all sizes
  • broken toys
  • bubble wrap
  • tissue paper
  • newspaper and magazines
  • buttons
  • beads or broken jewelry

There is a box outside of the art room for donations. Please feel free to bring by or have your child bring by any recyclable items!

Art Challenge!

As it is sooooo late in the month, there will be no art challenge for the month of January, but check back at the beginning of February for the February Art Challenge!
